Heldrake conversion

My brother gifted me a Heldrake kit for my birthday a month ago, and I wanted to make sure I had it ready when I see him around Christmas.  I already have on drake built standard, so I wanted to do a conversion.  I bought some Lizardman Carnosaur parts (head, spine, and tail) to help make this more drake like.  The rest of the back I sculpted in w/ Milliput.  Also added some exhaust pipes to the back and sides.

WIP of the back
For the wings, my original inspiration was a TIE interceptor.

At first I was like...
As I played with them it changed to more of a barn swallow.  All the wings and legs are magnetized for ease of travel.

but then I was like...
For colors, I knew I didn't want a black or red Heldrake.  Nor a golden yellow, as that is the 3rd color of my Chaos army.  I decided to desaturate the electric blue I use as contrast in my army to get a color closer to that of actual fighter jets.

This is a pre-possession pic of my Heldrake
The rest of my color choices fell into place from there.

HAI GUISE!!!

extra exhaust pipes and some lite OSL

Dead Ultramarines help tie this back into my army.
Lastly, a friend asked me to make an objective marker, shield generator, type thing a while ago, which I've been working on slowly between projects.  Not sure if he wants me to base it or if he would prefer to, so you may see another pic of this based in the future.

The Eight

Here we have Farsight and his entourage, known as "The Eight."  They are armed in the photos w/ the weapons I saw them with on GW's site, but all weapons have been magnetized.  The extras are in the last picture with a marker drone and some other weapons that were done up in Blue.  I cannot take credit for the idea of the scheme, but I like it a lot.  Gives them a real black-ops vibe.  The new Tau models are really tight.  The finecast models have grown on me.  The Farsight and the Commander models both have really dynamic poses.

Edit: I should also mention the bases were left bare at request of my client.

War of Ashes: Shieldwall

I was happy to get the opportunity to paint up some Shieldwall mini's from Zombiesmith.  These will be used for demoing the game, and they will be on a model ship that is being built.  The first guys are called the Jaarl, a militarized group of sentians that sailed from the east.  They are better metalworkers and very organized.  The second group are Vidaar, who are inbreed viking types from the north.  They are my personal favorite as their underbite reminds me of Animal from the Muppets.  I do not know a lot about gameplay, but they have a video on youtube that gives you the basics (it's also embedded below).

Baron recloaked

My client felt the Baron's cloak was too close to Christmas and asked to change it.  Can't say I blame him, I have to agree.  He suggested an inky blue-black and I was happy to oblige him.

Baron Sathonyx and Autarch with Mantle of the Laughing God

These conversions are not mine.  The first is Baron Sathonyx.  I really like how the cape came out.  The second model is an Eldar Autarch with Mantle of the Laughing God.  I wanted to go Harlequin, thus the heavy check and stripe patterning.  It was good to see the time needed to do a proper harlequin paint job, incase I ever am asked to do a squad in the future.

Dark Apostle and Lord of Change

This week I finished a Dark Apostle and Lord of Change for myself.  The Dark Apostle was built from a few different models and kits.  Very happy with him.  He goes by Reverend Thaddeus Al'Sheik Schapangpang, Premiere Lahab of the Crescent Star.  The Lord of Change doesn't have a name yet and is just the standard pewter model, but I painted a ton of alchemical and astrological symbols inside the hexagons I painted on his robe.  The staff is a green marble.  Very happy with how he came out, waiting to see how long before it breaks...
